As I read #Amos 4 in its entirety, it reminds me of how, we, the People of God are behaving today in spite of warning after warning and His unwavering love for us.
Five times did the #Lord make this statement, "yet have ye not returned unto me, saith the Lord" in verses 6, 8, 9, 10, and 11.
In this chapter specifically, God was instructing the people to turn from their sinful lifestyle and come back to Him. Letting them know what would happen each time they did not return to Him still was not enough for them to forsake sin but it appears as if they found great pleasure in sinning and would rather have that than returning back to the Father and live a holy life.
In looking at today's Church, we too, have become like the people living in #Bashan, #Samaria. We know to do right but we have become intoxicated with sin and all its pleasures knowing the punishment and that we will be judged. I'm reminded of 1 #Timothy 4:1-2 which states, Now the Spirit[a]expressly says that in latter times some will depart from the faith, giving heed (pay attention to; take notice of) to deceiving spirits and doctrines of demons, 2 speaking lies in hypocrisy, having their own conscience (mind) seared with a hot iron..." How can this be when we know the Way of the Lord; we know the Word of God? How do we go from a conscious mindset to sin to an unconscious mindset to sin? How do we leave righteousness/#holiness for #unrighteousness/#unholiness? Verse 2 tells us very clearly, our minds have become one that has been seared with a hot iron. What does this mean? When we understand what seared means, [ARCHAIC] - make (someone's conscience, heart, or feelings) insensitive. Here we have it, many of the people of God have become insensitive to His Word. #Revelation 2:29 states this, “He who has an ear, let him hear what the Spirit says to the churches.” Many of us do not have a desire to hear what the Spirit of God is saying to the #Church; therefore, we've become insensitive, desensitized to the warnings the Word gives us for sin. We do not read and meditate upon His Word and only pray out of desperation rather than praying because of our relationship with Him.
#God has sent warning and even gave a clear explanation of their sinful behavior but they yet still refused to turn away.
As each day arrives and passes, many still are willfully choosing to stay in a sinful lifestyle. These are not just your "general" Christians, but those who have been given a charge to carry/bring the Word, #healing, #deliverance, #salvation, making whole, #restoration, repairing the breach, finding the lost, etc. These men and women only seek to gratify their flesh and obtain personal wealth without a care to help those that are in poverty, homeless, sick and diseased. It is the pleasures of their sin that keeps them from turning away. If we, the people of God, have become wayward in our relationship with the Father, then who will bring healing, deliverance, salvation, making whole, restoration, repairing the breach, finding the lost, etc. to a dying world?
The Spirit of God is speaking clearly to the people of God to turn from a life of sin that Jesus already died for to set us free from. Scripture tells us in #Galatians 5:1 Stand fast therefore in the liberty wherewith #Christ hath made us free, and BE NOT entangled again with the yoke of bondage. Sin brings and keeps us in bondage spiritually, mentally, emotionally, financially, and physically as long as it's a part of our lifestyle.
Let us not continue to be a wayward people but be restored back to the Father as His child by putting away our sinful deeds, putting off the garments of unrighteousness and replace them with garments of #righteousness, not operating in wickedness or being evildoers but walking in holiness and maintaining our #sanctification.
