Matthew 24:24 King James Version (KJV)
24 For there shall arise false Christs, and false prophets, and shall shew great signs and wonders; insomuch that, if it were possible, they shall deceive the very elect.
One who is labeled a false prophet is partly because of their intent to deceive as this verse of scripture points out.
It is much easier to be labeled a false prophet than most think.
In today's church society, there are far more false prophets than we identify or are bold enough to call them out.
There are various ways one can go about attempting to deceive others. For example, the serpent took the instructions of God and twisted the truth. This is why we need to know the Word of God for ourselves and not just depend on others to teach us, that include ministers of any capacity.
Scripture further instructs us in Philippians 2:12 Therefore, my beloved, just as you have always obeyed, not only in my presence, but now even more in my absence, continue to work out your salvation with fear and trembling. By doing this one can avoid being deceived at the hands of someone else. However, being taught by someone else is a benefit because if what they're teaching you lines up with what you've studied, it's all gravy.
Don't become a victim of deception, even to oneself.
